Would you entrust your case to an attorney, using Facebook to promote their legal services? Certain law offices use this approach. While it may attract a few new clients, it’s not an enduring marketing maneuver. Social media sites such as Facebook, and MySpace are not the elixir for fortifying new client acquisitions.

Although social networking sites are essentially content management systems (CMS), they are not conducive for disseminating information about a law firm. Recently, we found that a law firm in New York uses Facebook to maintain content updates. Here are three areas where  the customized content management system surpasses social media networking.

Professional online presence
Content management systems are an extension of the law firm’s online presence. Using a CMS distinguishes a practice as an ethical entity, trustworthy enough to litigate a case.

Customized features
Although social networking sites offer personalization features, it does not compare to the customized capabilities of a law firm CMS.

Security
End users of social networking sites are susceptible to identity theft, security breaches and spam. Since content management systems are tailored to the needs of a firm, security tends to be a critical component of development.
